DLM Recommends again

  • Waitress – Great movie includes a line that I think I will steal if I ever need to have surgery (or intensive medical procedures) “I want drugs. I want massive amounts of dtugs. I want the maximum legal limits of drugs.” Plus how can you not love a movie about a woman with a gift for making & naming pies (“Mermaid Marshmallow”)? A very satisfying ending.
  • Graeters Black Raspberry Chip ice cream : You can only get this French pot ice cream in Ohio, Kentucky and now Denver (King Soopers?). Every pint packed by hand, though have spent many a fun summer night in line at one of their locations in Columbus. Many wonderful flavors including some fun seasonal ones (peppermint!), this one is my favorite. Liquid chocolate is poured in as the ice cream is finishing and broken up in chunks once frozen. This is not for the “lite” ice cream fan, it’s creamy & rich, cited by NY Times as better than factory made premium brands like Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry’s (more expensive too).

  • Hanging with my “donut”My pal Wendy’s oldest daughter, now a big sister to “Mac”. Always fun and challenging, a while back she started calling people “donut”, as in “you’re a donut”, and she’s kept it up with me so I say it back to her. Very interesting hearing a 4 year old tell you about her dream last night and then asking you to watch her run around a coffee table for no particular reason (multiple times).

  • “F**k You” by Lily Allen – as most of you know, I’m a fan of the F-word and fluent in it's use. Not sure why I’m not spelling it out now or why iTunes felt the need to * parts of it. Happy little tune with a message and always enjoy that contrast. “You’re just some racist who can’t tie my laces

  • The Motorcycle Diaries (movie) – Stunning movie about a young Che Guevara’s road trip through South America. He sees so much beauty as well as poverty & suffering. Certainly a key part of his life that contributed to his political leanings and his future actions. No matter what he did later (freedom fighter or terrorist?), it demonstrates what spurs someone on to be a revolutionary. Based on his journals, part of which I’ll probably read some day.

  • Sneezing - Let it go, let it rocket you backward, feel the release, don't bring it up short. Hot damn, it feels good. (totally stole this entire entry from McSweeney’s)

  • Raul Malo – know by most as the lead singer of the Mavericks. Usually classified in country though has explored his latin roots and some classics. Probably the vocal heir to Roy Orbison. I’m a fool for covers, particular his version of “Cold, Cold Heart”, “I Guess Things Happen That Way”, etc.

  • Johann Sebastian Bach – I could go on about what a genius craftsman he was, how his music is good for your brain & your soul. How I’ve recently discovered that I don’t have a recording of the Well-Tempered Clavier (CD – not iTunes, still a snob on classical)! Douglas Adams said it all for me: “Mozart tells us what it's like to be human, Beethoven tells us what it's like to be Beethoven and Bach tells us what it's like to be the universe.

  • Fresh vegetables and amberjack - preferably roasted on the grill by my lovely talented cousin Janice on a Saturday evening in Florida. My last Saturday night was pretty good.

Too much part two

So it continues. Dad is doing much better after some scariness. Really wants to leave hospital. Sister has been down in Texas, really a trooper. I'm heading down Tuesday and will take some work with me.

Be there for a week, then back to finish some things, a couple of days in DC then back to town. My original plan was to take vacation the week of 3/31 and spend part in DC, part at home getting stuff done. However now work has intruded on that plan, key project is finally ending. May be able to take some time off, definitly will in April and maybe go back to Texas if needed.

Typical, I had been stir crazy in Columbus, ready to leave town for weeks/months. Now March will be Florida, Texas and DC. Still want to plan trips to Chicago, Denver and Providence, have time for Dad to visit this summer or fall, DC back for CC's birthday, then something for mine.

Another post coming - what to do for my birthday in September! Want to do something fun, preferably with my sister and my friends. Need ideas people!

Too much going on

I must do this to myself, go through periods were life is dull nothing going on to everything at once. Anyhoo here's the scoop:
  • Heading to Florida this weekend to see mom and cousins. Good to get to warm weather even though not best time at work
  • Big project is finally coming together yet server moves and email conversion this weekend so may as well leave town without my laptop!
  • Work is busier yet depressing, more to do, realizing limits of some people which creates more work for moi
  • My good pal had her 2nd baby (see below). Very happy about that and she has lots of support so feel ok leaving at the moment.
  • Big news - Dad called yesterday, he hasn't been feeling well for some time and had to have tests on his heart today
  • Test results today - he's going to have a quadruple bypass on Friday. He's resigned to it and feels good about doctor yet worried. He has to stay in the hospital. My stepmother is worried of course and ready to get tough on diet & exercise as he recovers - which he's not looking forward to. Talk to him tonight as well as my stepsister (who's a nurse) that has been living with them recently.

I could go on, though I'm procrastinating from preparing to leave town and work I need to do.

Mackenzie Reese Williamson 3/03/2009

I had a busy day (more later) yet nothing compared to this little one's mama. Everyone is doing well, especially big sister Madi who's very proud, heard she told the nurses "I'm 4 my little sister is 1!"
Wendy is very happy to no longer be pregnant - her comment - "my ass no longer hurts!" Very common text message I would get at odd times "my ass hurts!"
