So spent probably last weekend of mild weather shopping and purging. (Wind came in Sunday and now grey skies are here).
Hit Container store for odds/ends stuff and a few travel items. Then Costco for overdue trip - some groceries and price compare on shredder. Sunday was Target, Lowes (didn't find anything there), Bed Bath & Beyond (usual 20% coupon), World Market and Staples. Didn't find everything and some stuff I am rethinking.
Threw out 3 trash bags and a paper bag of old magazines plus old broken shredder. (Reconsider buying shredder and maybe just bringing in junk mail to work shredder bins). Did 2 loads of laundry - real excitement.

Take out the trash day
So last night after long week, was a little bored at home. Started finally to come up with plans to purge. Found some inspiration on Peter Walsh's page of the O Universe. (I know it's sort of a cult - can't help it). Anyway started making a plan for each room and realized I had too much trash in my main room. Started some lists. Realized I'm using my main room as office/eating area/ and TV (and laundry sorting room). Also tons of furniture bits that only purpose is containing clutter. And I could "re-do" the space without major purchases. (Though did start a wish list.) Not going to do too much since this particular location is not a long term plan.
So right now - taking a short break before taking some trash out, waiting on dryer to finish before heading to grocery store and Costco. Possibly Container store - we'll see.
Tomorrow I'll have to spend some time at the office so not much will get done then. Later peeps!

Long week
At least it's felt that way. Sort of feeling better after cold/bug thing. That must be going around. This morning attended visiting hours for work pal, R, - her mother died - age 96. Great life though tough times lately for R, she lived with her mom for years and they were best friends. (R is my mother's age and lost her fiance in Vietnam war) While her mom's health was failing she was laid off. She's doing great in spite of it, though tough times. She does have a good support system and such a sweet person so I know eventually it will work out. If anyone is looking for an excellent assistant in Columbus, Ohio - let me know.
Office is not busy with volume, though project work is crazy. Scary times - our group is lean already - just heard one of my fave programmers is leaving - so make work tougher. Also other areas will have cutbacks. Almost too lean. Also too many meetings - can't get any work done during regular hours. Though can't really cut meetings.
Tuesday had nice after work gathering with new analysts. Ate at The Winery. Great place near office, just north of Worthington! They only provide food that goes well with tasting wine. Cheese & Fruit, hummus, pizzas, light salads that sort thing. You can walk around - pick up a bottle and they serve it. They waived the corking fee so 12 of us ate and drank for less than $350! Very good and so relaxed. Nice change of pace than usual restaurant - may be a new favorite haunts.

Columbus Day weekend
Started oddly with cube restack at work. Had to move my office which is a total pain with the amount of work I have going on right now. Of course it's slower at work so good time for everyone else. Got to leave office at 12pm and had lunch with Wendy (Smokey's mom) and her 4yr old daughter Madi. That was fun then meant to do something nice like shop or manicure. However started feeling run down. Went home to nap. (which is so odd for me).
Met my pal, Tom from work at JGilberts for martinis and happy hour. Fabulous - my fave bartender was there. Hadn't been in ages. Then I was really lazy rest of weekend. Though Monday (CBus day) went into to office for a little bit to set up office. Should have stayed longer - however met Mrs. A for lunch which was lovely. Sat outside, beautiful fall day and enjoyed a Cape Cod. Then a little shopping and went home. Totally avoiding house work and work work.
Trying to figure out travels, my Dad's uncle is in poor health so may need to go to Maryland soon. Or my uncle could rebound - so hard to tell. Calling my aunt tonight to see if there is anything I can do. He's ready to go and his body is failing though this could easily drag on for a while (emphysema, pnuemonia, other issues). Closest I have to grandparents on my Dad's side now so I feel very close to them. Plus in my college days spent a lot of time with them. Don't want him to go, yet also I know he hates being in this condition and not very lucid anymore.
Looks like I'll spend Xmas holidays in Ft Lauderdale with Sister. She can't really travel then cause of work project. Still hope to get to Chicago also this fall - here's hoping.

Trying not to get too optimistic
A pal at work who thinks she's Republican (long story - pro-choice, makes less than $50k, thinks gays are ok) actually said she may vote for Obama! She's typical of working class whites that supposedly Obama has trouble attracting. Found McCain feeble in the debate, economy issue really making an impact, plus Obama appears more like a leader.
Obama is taking bus trip in Ohio - dueling rallies with Palin. Interesting contrast. Web site is interesting place for political junkies also.
Kicker - Buckley's son is voting for Obama. Wild and funny article.

Elements dinner
Great place, if you ever find yourself in that part of Georgia - certainly enhanced the experience.
Back in the 614
After quick/yet fun weekend trip back in Columbus. And the gray raining days have started. Plus work is chaos - moving my office on Friday and the market environment has everyone stressed.
Great time in ATL with the very hospitable K's and their kitties! Thai food for dinner and unfortunatly hostess, ETK was under the weather. So generous and kind of the K's and made an easy start to weekend.
Drove down Saturday to Vidalia. Didn't request it but the car had satellite radio and GPS. Sort of helpful yet confusing. Not too mention terrible directions from mapquest. Eventually made in time to have visit time with Aunt Rae and family. Great dinner and fun time. Place had great wine options and I think everyone had good dinner. I enjoyed excellent chicken dish after buffalo quail, lobster croquettes, brie and various dips for appetizers.
Had to leave early and went more direct way back to Atlanta, flight was actually early and back in Cbus by 2pm. Met pals for dinner and cocktails then saw Robin Williams. Very funny - had fun with politics "Where did John McCain find her - "Project Runningmate?". So lots done and now back to work.

Today's excitement
Actually left my office for lunch - went to Target with 2 pals and stocked up on travel things - including magazines. (Better than buying at airport shop). Too much to do and market has created all sort of chaos at work.
I never thought I'd part of a casual conversation about FAS 157 (mark to market accounting). Of course when you hang with consultants from an accounting firm on project related to IRS treatment of gains- that could happen. (I know you're fascinated!)
It's getting chilly here - I like a little snap in the air but not too much - don't want to turn on the heat yet.
Since Sarah Palin can't answer Katie's questions, I'll give it a try:
Magazines I read: New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, Entertainment Weekly, O, Fortune and occasionally Vanity Fair, Newsweek or Time, if an article peaks my interest - Foreign Affairs.
Supreme Court decisons I disagree with: Dred Scott, Plessy v. Ferguson, Bush v. Gore, plus some cases related to the Commerce clause - which under Rehnquist and now Roberts - probably too many to name there.
